Neon Underground

Real Neon. Real Nostalgia.

Real glass. Real gas. Made by hand. Made to last.

What We Do

Since the late 1990s, Phil Lucero's neon work has been seen throughout Northern Colorado and beyond—reaching as far as Las Vegas.Including projects such as the Fox Theater Restoration in Aurora to custom sign projects in Fort Collins and surrounding communities, Phil's pieces have become part of the places people gather, work, and remember. Each sign is built with the same care and respect for the craft, whether it’s a landmark marquee or a small, meaningful commission. Neon has a way of becoming part of a city’s visual memory, and I’m proud to have contributed to that glow across the region.

Why Choose Neon?

Beginning in the Roaring ’20s and booming in the post–World War II era, neon once defined Main Street, U.S.A. Neon signs shone as beacons for diners, theaters, motels, and storefronts. That unmistakable glow became a symbol of optimism, craftsmanship, and permanence.Today, true neon is increasingly replaced by imitations that favor convenience and cost over character. LED lighting lacks the warmth, depth, and soul that only hand-bent neon glass can produce. A real neon sign isn’t just a light—it’s functional art, shaped by skilled hands and built to last for decades.Beyond aesthetics, restoration specialists are finding that traditional neon is a more responsible choice than most people realize. When a neon sign reaches the end of its life, its components—glass tubing, metal housings, and transformers—can be recycled or repurposed. Nothing has to end up in a landfill. Neon was created in an era that valued repair, longevity, and reuse, and that mindset remains central to the craft.Choosing neon means choosing longevity over planned obsolescence, repair over replacement, and craftsmanship over shortcuts. Preserving the art of neon means honoring the artisans who perfected this trade—and ensuring it endures for future generations.
